I knitted a couple of fingerless mitts, The Snowflake Glove and Fetching. Snowflake was knit in using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino baby and I was not over thrilled with yarn. I liked it but I didn't go WOW. The pattern was an easy knit and just need to tuck in the yarn ends. I started Fetching for a KAL with a few other knitters from the Hillsborough Yarn Shop and used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK and went WOW. I really loved the yarn that I decided I wanted to knit a sweater out of it. Friday I went to Hillsborough Yarn Shop and decided after talking to Marion (a fellow knitter) that I wanted to make Elizabeth Zimmerman's February Sweater. Actually EZ designed a baby sweater and Pamela Wynne redesigned it to fit an adult. While checking out my Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran, Ann the shop owner, laid down what she was knitting and it was beautiful. I asked about it and found out that it a class starting Sunday for The Fan Jacket taken from the book Japanese Inspired Knits. I decided to join in, so I picked up some Debbie Bliss Rialto in a powder blue, got the class instructions, bought the book and went home a happy camper.
Sunday was our first class and it was great. There were seven other knitters there and the instructor Nancy taught us two new cast-ons; the German Twisted Cast-On and a lace cast-on. Sorry I cannot remember whose cast-on this was, but it is not the lace cast-on when you google. I'll find out and update. We also went over gauge and how to change the pattern to fit us if the sizing shown does not match our sizes. This was important to me as I have no problem with gauge on straight or decorative knitting, but when it comes to a pattern that is 16 stitches plus 5, and there are say 43 rows, and each row the pattern repeat is a different number count, then I get totally lost and have no clue where you measure for the gauge. Now I know ;-) Our homework is to start on the sleeves, this will be my late afternoon knitting before DH gets home as it requires my attention for the fan pattern, but once I get to the body it is a slip garter stitch pattern and I will be fine knitting that with distraction.
I will get a good start as DH will be working a few hours today (Monday) and he will go back to work from 8 pm to 4 am and the same on Tuesday night. He is working the extra hours today so he doesn't have to go to work on Wednesday after working all night.
My Jenny Craig consult is Wednesday so I'll update on that afterwards. So far so good though.
Hugs!!!!
Namaste!!!
