I was surfing the different blogs I read, some of which I don't comment I am more of a lurker. I went to The Panopticon and read with interest his blog regarding New Year's resolution and it was so good I had to comment (it also prompted me to actually post my thoughts on my own resolution or lack of), because it was about what I had vowed I would do last fall.
Now on to another thing that is strange - I bought Elizabeth Zimmermann's book The Knitter's Almanac and have been thinking which pattern of hers do I want to try. Yes I am still working on the shirt that is a gift, I am getting tired of the pattern and that wonderful feeling that comes when you are knitting isn't as high as it was, but one good thing, it is getting to the point where I can see an end. So I have been thinking what can I substitute and alternate with. I've been thinking of that wonderful fingering wool I bought in NY at Morehouse Farms or picking up my UFO of Charlotte's Web knitted in that wonderful Koigu. So my thinking has been wandering to a shawl. I also have been wondering about EZ's book and should I knit something a month.
Not all her patterns, because some... well there... I don't... any one... well now that I think of it, the tights or to me long johns under the Nether Garments might just work for my youngest brother Chris. Chris is single, and the ultimate outdoorsmen, 365 days a year. He owns his own construction company so can set his own schedule to go out and hunt and forage. Yes he is very big into gathering ginseng, but he also fishes and hunts small and big game. He gets up extremely early in that NY cold and sits for hours either on the water or land waiting for the perfect one. So maybe the "garment," in what? wool? hmmm wool wicks away the moisture, but would it be itchy, maybe in a light weight... cotton? some cotton can be really fine and wonderful to knit with, or maybe something with silk in it... which would be better? hmmm something definitely worth researching. I could change the opening a little... WAIT!!!!!! you see this is what EZ's book does to me. This is exactly what happened when I read the chapter on the shawl and I began to change the design. Then I went over to Franklin's site and he is having an Almanac-Along. Well this was just to much of a coincidence for me and I signed up.
By the end of the week I should have pictures of the shirt.
Sweet Chantilly is going in for surgery, again, tomorrow. The site where they did the incision, where she had problems in October that they ended up putting a collar on her had a lump. It never did go down to normal so when we boarded them in December we had the vet look at it. They think it herniated and want to go back in and take care of it. So no food or drink for her after 10, which shouldn't be a problem. So I am a basket case right now worrying......
