Looks like I'll be heading to my local yarn shop for the knit up tonight.
DH left early this morning to head for SC's Fort Jackson. While I was doing my morning cleaning I looked out the front window and there was DH walking toward the door. WHAT?!?!? Why are you home? "Well in order to get on base I made sure my registration, inspection and license were all in order. My license expired September and I forgot about it. I decided to stop just before the SC border and renew my license." Laughingly he says "but I can't because NY suspended my NY drivers license." Okay now he has not had a NY driver's license in 9 years, he has a NC license, he has renewed the address twice and not once did this come up. He said NY is charging a 25.00 suspension fee and he has to pay it in order to get his license out of suspension. He tells me he will just pay it and it will be taken off. I'm curious as to what this is for, he says I think it has do with the time DS1 went to NY and had the car confiscated. You think, I say, you are not sure. No, they said something about it having to do with my insurance.
Okay now if it was me even if it is only 25.00 I would want to know exactly why? Plus the thing with my son, NY was in the wrong and they had to relinquish the vehicle plus pay the storage fee themselves because they were in the wrong. This is what happened - a short version - Son was going to NY just shortly after we moved to NC. DH loaned him one of our cars. Now this car had insurance - Nationwide - which we took out in NC when we moved here. DH and I had our license changed to NC we just did not register the car in NC we kept the NY plates. We just got the plates on this vehicle about two years before this and in NY you do not get a refund you get a credit to use again. HELLO!!! we aren't going back to NY we live in NC, we just figured we would run the plates until they were ready to expire and then transfer them. HAH! so we thought. Son gets pulled over in NY (oh he has a NY license), the car comes up uninsured, even though he has papers saying that it has Nationwide (plus in NC you cannot get a dl unless you are insured, car or not, you must have insurance, car is in DH's name). They confiscate the vehicle, impound it, and give him a ticket. We contacted Nationwide, they took care of it for us and vehicle was returned. Seems like it doesn't matter where your car is insured, insurance is insurance.
Now I thought maybe mistaken identiy but dh and ds1 have different first and middle names; SS # is definitely different - one was born in NY the other in NJ, so I don't think that is it. When ds1 moved back to NC he had to renew his license and there was a charge from when he let his license lapse and he received a ticket, he paid the ticket but didn't pay a portion for the court costs so he had to take care of that, but nothing from NY.
Now if it was me I would pay the charge; he has to because he won't be able to work if he doesn't get his license renewed, but I still would try to figure out what the charge was for. I know most people like dh would be it's only 25.00 let me just take care of it and to hell with it. However, since I am the untrusting one, I'm thinking what if NY is pulling a scam to raise money? If they did this to 10,000 people who think it's only 25.00 let me pay it and forget about it, that is $250,000.00 extra in their coiffures, even only 1,000 people that is 25,000 extra.
Oh well - I get to go to knitting tonight LOL.
